Geography

A large riding in western Ontario, this district is bordered by Lake Huron in the north, the Thames River in the south and extends out to Lake St. Clair but excludes part of Lambton County. The largest population centres in this riding are the western suburbs of London (Strathroy, Konoka), and the riverside town of Wallaceburg.

This was another rural riding that the Liberals took in the 2003 and 2007 elections, but went back to the Tories in 2011, with Monte McNaughton defeating MPP Maria van Bommel by nearly 7,000 votes. The riding, along with its main predecessor Lambton East, had elected the party that formed government in every election since 1987.

By the numbers

Eighty-nine per cent of people listed English as their mother tongue in the 2011 census, 11th highest in southern Ontario. The population density is 21.68 people per square kilometre, 7th sparsest in southern Ontario.
