RCMP dog receives protective vest thanks to Leduc students

Bolt, a four legged member of the RCMP will now be a little bit safer, thanks to a donation from students in Leduc.

Students at Willow Park School raised more than $2,300.00 to buy a protective vest for the police dog.

Bolt works out of the International Airport with his handler, identifying explosives.

The students raised money by having people guess how many jelly beans were in a 4 litre jug.

"The community has really taken quite a lot of attention on these dogs and become a part of their community. These dogs are out there in the public eye, they’re catching criminals, putting them in jail and their keeping officers and communities safe." says Cst. Joel Mackown.

This is the second vest that has been donated thanks to fundraising efforts of Leduc residents. Money was raised for the first vest in 2000.

The vests have a shelf life of five to six years.
