Edmonton-Kamloops Greyhound bus crashes near Clearwater

A moose is getting the blame for an early-morning Greyhound bus crash in B.C.’s southern interior.

RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says the bus driver swerved to avoid a moose that wandered onto Highway 5, about 25 kilometres south of Clearwater.

The bus, travelling from Edmonton to Kamloops with 18 passengers aboard, veered into a 1.5-metre deep slough, but stayed upright.

Moskaluk says everyone was able to get out of the bus and make it to the road to wait for help.

One person was shaken up but Moskaluk says no one is seriously injured, although all 19 have been taken to hospital in Clearwater for a checkup.

The crash briefly closed Highway 5, 105 kilometres north of Kamloops, at around 5 a.m., but the route has since reopened.
