Shaw partners with streaming music service Rdio

TORONTO – Shaw Communications Inc., parent company of Global News, announced a partnership on Thursday with streaming music service Rdio.

The partnership will help grow Rdio in Canada via a Shaw marketing, content and promotion initiative.

Rdio has a library of over 20 million songs available for users to stream online or through a device, such as a smartphone.

They offer a free, ad-supported option as well as a commercial-free subscription option that costs $9.99 CDN per month.

“As Canada’s leading network and content experience company, we believe our customers should have access to the best content available,” Brad Shaw, CEO, Shaw Communications Inc. said in a press release.

“Rdio is the best available digital streaming music experience and a great complement to our leading broadband and Shaw Go WiFi services. Our partnership with Rdio will develop great offers that will enable Shaw customers and everyone across the country to enjoy this service.”

Part of the deal includes an investment by Shaw Ventures to Rdio’s holding company, Pulser Media, Inc.

Rdio recently announced a similar partnership in Brazil with media company Grupo Bandeirantes.

Canada is Rdio’s second largest market after the U.S.
