Vancouver Police make arrest in connection with murder of homeless man

Vancouver Police have made an arrest in the murder of a homeless and disabled man in 2009.

Police say they arrested 37-year-old Aaron Dale Power near Renfrew and Hastings Streets on Wednesday, in connection with the death of 41-year-old Michael Ciro Nestoruk.

Nestrouk was found by on the grounds of Sir Guy Carleton Elementary School on April 9, 2009 at 7:30 a.m. Parents dropping their kids off for school made the grisly discovery.

Nestrouk was wheelchair-bound and had one leg. Police say he was vulnerable and suffering from addictions.

Power is charged with second-degree murder. He has an  “extensive criminal background” according to police and is well-known to them. Power remains in custody until his next court appearance.

In 2009, police offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
