SASKATOON – A Saskatoon firefighter is being recognized for helping to save a life at the Las Vegas airport last week.

Deb Davies and some friends had gone to Las Vegas on April 11 when she noticed a man in distress as they arrived at the luggage carousel.

Davies said her training as a primary care paramedic kicked in and she started chest compressions while calling on others to find an automated external defibrillator (AED) and call 9-1-1.

Along with other professionals, Davies was able to shock the man and successfully revive him.

Davies recognized that with her training, she was the one who needed to take control of the situation to save a life.

She will be recognized for her efforts at an award banquet in June.
