ANTIGONISH, N.S. – Nova Scotia’s County of Antigonish has approved the rezoning of land in Fairmont that will allow the development of a new wind farm to move forward.
After a public hearing Tuesday night, county council unanimously approved the rezoning of almost 2.7 hectares of land as a wind resource.
The move clears the way for a pair of 2.3 megawatt turbines.
In January 2010, Nova Scotia Power awarded the contract to develop the wind farm to Wind Prospect Inc.
Fairmont project manager Andy MacCallum says work will begin once the environmental impact assessment for the proposal is approved by the province.
MacCallum says he expects that process, which is open to input from the public, will take about 50 days.
