Children’s retailer undergoing “large-scale restructuring”

Bad news for parents who’ve been hanging onto a gift card at a Canadian children’s clothing chain.

Please Mum has filed for bankruptcy protection and is closing a number of stores across the country, including its location at Empress St. and Maroons Rd. behind Polo Park Shopping Centre.

Once a corporation files for bankruptcy, it is no longer obligated to honour gift cards.

The Canadian-owned children’s wear company says the large-scale restructuring is because of “significant shifts in the retail landscape,” according to a message on its website.

Three other locations in Manitoba remain open: St. Vital and Kildonan Park shopping centres as well as the store in Brandon at Shoppers Mall.

The company could not confirm if it will close even more stores. You can track which remain open by logging onto http://www.pleasemum.com
