Mud and rubber boots vs. high and dry: a tale of two Cravens

Mud, rubber boots, 13 hour long waits. That’s what Craven Country Jamboree fans had to endure during the 2010 version of the event.

But it’s a tale of two Cravens. This year, a flooded campground had forced party goers to the top of the Lumsden Hill – where it’s dry. The move means buses are necessary to take country fans to the rest of the party in the Craven Valley.

“It’s kind of (expletive) that it’s far away, that we have to get bussed in,” Lyle Howat said. “But it’s nice we can actually sleep in a tent and that I don’t have to worry about getting drowned out or flooded out, or anything.”

The old camping site is still partially underwater, and with the event officially getting started later this week, organizers say the move had to happen.

“People have been very good coming in and been very happy and been satisfied with our arrangements this year,” Kim Blevins said.

Campers who have yet to arrive at the site should be aware that household furniture, including couches, is not allowed. Day passes and day parking are still available for anyone who wants to come out during the day.
