Cargo plane goes off taxiway at YVR, no passengers on board

VANCOUVER – No passengers were on board and no one was injured when a cargo plane went off a taxiway at Vancouver International Airport on Wednesday afternoon.

The plane, reportedly a DC-10, is a private aircraft with Orbis written on the side. This incident has not impacted activity at YVR, but crews have removed the fuel from the aircraft so the weight of the plane does not cause it to sink into the ground.

The incident happened when the asphalt reportedly gave way under the back right tire, causing the plane to sink into a 12-inch hole. There is some construction about 100 feet away from the plane, but it is not known at this time if this is what caused the tire to sink. Crews are now working to figure out how to pull a cargo plane out of this hole without causing further damage.
