The mosquito population in Edmonton is expected to explode thanks to the wet weather over the past week.
At the same time, the city is looking at cutting nearly $200,000 from the annual bug control budget.
Councillor Kerry Diotte is questioning the plan.
"I expect the city to step up to the plate and find money elsewhere." Diotte said Friday. "I just have a problem with cutting the budget in the first place on such a core service."
Experts are predicting that 2011 will mark the highest mosquito count in years.
