Dozens of able-bodied participants came out Sunday to Coldstream Ranch near Vernon to participate in a fundraiser for a special riding club.
The Ride-A-Thon took place in the mountains behind the ranch.
The North Okanagan Therapeutic Riding Association offers horseback opportunities for about 70 special needs participants every week.
"Its fun," says Kate Camilleri, a NOTRA participant. "I like how big they are. I want a horse, but I don’t have a big yard."
Kate’s mother says her daughter is happiest when she’s riding a horse.
"Its nice to see her on the horse," says Edie Barr. "She has a lot of confidence when she’s up there and she can just be herself. Nobody’s judging her and she just really enjoys it."
For 27 years, NOTRA has been operating with donations. Sunday’s Ride-A-Thon is the major fundraiser for the organization.
Organizers hoped to raise more than $15,000.
