The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) believes the man may have been racing another vehicle before the rollover.
He was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Police say the driver was the only person in the vehicle at the time.
Eastbound traffic on the Whitemud was reduced to one lane while police conducted their investigation. The exit ramp from southbound 149 St. to eastbound Whitemud was completely shut down to traffic for several hours.
Shortly after 5 p.m., traffic on the Whitemud was backed up all the way to 178 St.
