MONTREAL – Police in Laval say they have arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with the murder of 9-year-old Joleil Campeau.
The little girl’s remains were discovered in a creek about 180 metres from her family’s Auteil neighbourhood home on June 16, 1995, several days after her disapearance.
At the time, police determined she had not been sexually assaulted before being killed. Police believed she had been accosted while on her way to a friend’s house. In April 2005, Laval police announced they had reopened the investigation, and two other cold cases, based on leads provided by new technology.
The suspect, a Montreal resident, was arrested on Wednesday night and is expected to be arraigned in a Laval courtroom Thursday on several unspecified charges, Laval police said in a statement.
Police have provided no further details regarding the possible relationship between the victim and the accused.
