TORONTO — A new Michael Jackson album will be released just weeks before the fifth anniversary of his death.

The King of Pop’s estate and Epic Records announced Monday they will release Xscape, an eight-song collection of previously unreleased songs, on May 13.

The title comes from a song on the album Jackson recorded with Rodney Jenkins.

Jackson died on June 25, 2009. He was 50.

Jenkins and producers Timbaland, Stargate, Jerome “Jroc” Harmon and John McClain worked with L.A. Reid to “contemporize” Jackson’s vocal tracks.

In a statement, Reid said: “Michael left behind some musical performances that we take great pride in presenting through the vision of music producers that he either worked directly with or expressed strong desire to work with.”

Xscape will be available for pre-order on iTunes beginning Tuesday. A deluxe version of the album will include the original recordings.
