QUEBEC – The Parti Quebecois is losing yet another member of the legislature.
Benoit Charette becomes the fifth PQ caucus member to quit the party in two weeks.
Charette announced his resignation in Quebec City this morning.
His departure follows those of Lisette Lapointe and PQ heavyweights Louise Beaudoin and Pierre Curzi on June 6.
The three cited a variety of reasons and said the final straw was the party’s championing of the Quebec City arena project without pausing to reflect on it.
Backbencher Jean-Martin Aussant quit the following day, saying he questioned the leadership of the official Opposition.
