South Okanagan roads, highway to be upgraded

The southern trans-provincial highway is in the works to be upgraded.

A $6.5 million contract has been awarded to Peter’s Brothers Construction Limited in Penticton to improve Highway 3 from Rock Creek west to Nine Mile Pit.

The road will be re-surfaced for the safety of motorists.

The concrete roadside barriers along the stretch of highway will also be replaced and improvements will be made to the Hulme Creek Road intersection.

The upgrade includes some work on the shoulders to improve the ride for cyclists.

The following local side roads will also be improved: Mount Baldy Road, Frontage Road opposite Mount Baldy, Bridesville Townsite Road, Bridesville Cemetery Road, Hulme Creek Road, Sidley Mountain Road, Sidley/Camp McKinney Road, Wiggins Road, Wagon Wheel Road and Kelly Road.

Work will begin as soon as weather permits and is expected to be completed in mid-September.
