EDMONTON – A Prince Albert, Sask. woman is fighting for her life in an Edmonton hospital.
Karen Pilon, 48, is currently on life-support while waiting for a double-lung transplant after the married mother of two was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis last September.
Pulmonary fibrosis is a chronic disease that causes the hardening of the lungs. Pilon’s father died at the age of 67 from the same disease while he was waiting for new lungs.
Pilon’s husband wants everyone to think about organ donations, and more importantly, to let your family know your wishes.
“Tell your whole family because there are the people who are going to be there at the end of the day if you pass on,” said Clarence Pilon.
“If we can just help one family today, I’d be happy.”
The wait for a lung transplant can take up to two years and one in every three patients waiting for a transplant dies before lungs become available.
