KELOWNA – Kelowna’s busiest transit bus exchange is getting a major makeover.
The Queensway exchange in the city’s downtown was constructed in 16 years ago and services about 2,000 bus riders every week day.
Work starts soon on $5.6 million worth of upgrades.
They include a curved roof over the island platform, new sidewalks, better lighting and landscaping and installation of more public artworks.
There will also be a small office building for bus drivers and security guards.
“The improvements will provide ease of transfer with support services and amenities to provide a comfortable and convenient environment for transit patrons, transit operators and security personnel,” says project manager Andrew Albiston.
The project also includes construction of a traffic roundabout at the nearby intersection of Queensway Avenue and Water Street.
Construction of the improvements starts in May with completion expected in August.
