<p>FREDERICTON – Emergency measures officials in New Brunswick say they’re optimistic that major flooding will be avoided along the St. John River.</p> <p>Karl Wilmot of the Flood Forecast Centre says the river has begun to flood places in northwestern New Brunswick, and in the Fredericton and Maugerville areas, but river levels are expected to crest on the weekend.</p> <p>He says the early weather forecast for next week contains only small amounts of rain.</p> <p>The rising waters have forced some road closures in the Maugerville and Sheffield areas along Route 105.</p> <p>Oromocto fire Chief Jody Price says the roadblocks are at Bluebird Corner, the Burton Bridge, Lakeville Corner and Highway 105 Sheffield, and Exit 333 of the Trans-Canada Highway.</p> <p>Rain and melting snow in the north of the province have swelled rivers and tributaries.</p>
