Canada’s Brian McKeever falls, gets up to win 2nd gold medal at Paralympics in Sochi

TORONTO – Canada’s Brian McKeever won gold in the men’s visually impaired 1 km cross-country race in Sochi Wednesday.

The Canmore, Alta. native fell early in the race after he got tangled up near the start with Russia’s Vladimir Udaltcov. With the aid of his guide Graham Nishikawa, McKeever reeled in on the final bend of the race course and finished in under four minutes.

This is McKeever’s second gold medal at the Paralympics in Sochi. On Monday, the athlete took the top prize in the men’s 20 km visually impaired cross-country race.

Canada has nine medals in total, including two gold medals, three silver and four bronze.
