The BC River Forecast Centre has upgraded its advisory to a Flood Watch for the Salmon River near Falkland.

A Flood Watch means that river levels are rising and will approach or may exceed bankfull.

Flooding of areas adjacent to affected rivers may occur.

River levels on the upper Salmon River have remained elevated over the past few days with warm weather and the onset of snow melt at low to mid elevation.

With the combination of warm weather over the weekend and forecasted precipitation into Monday, river levels are expected to rise into the early week.

Flooding of low-lying areas is expected.

The Shuswap Emergency Program is encouraging those living in low-lying areas near the Salmon River and Bolean Creek and who are susceptible to flooding, to begin preparation for flooding.

Sandbags will be made available when flooding becomes more eminent and residences will be impacted.

For more information regarding the Flood Watch advisory, visit the Shuswap Emergency Program website or by calling 250-833-3350 during business hours.
