CALGARY – A Calgary man who had over 30 pit bulls seized from his northeast home has been forced to pay a $5,000 fine.
The Calgary Humane Society executed a search warrant on Joseph Michael Hogan’s house in April of 2011.

When inside, they found the pit bulls to be severely dehydrated, suffering from inadequate space and medical care.
On Tuesday, Hogan was found guilty of violating the Alberta Animal Protection Act, which outlines minimum requirements to keep animals from being in distress.
Along with a $5,000 fine, he also faces a three animal limit for the rest of his life.
“The duty of care is no different for one pet dog than it is for dozens of breeding stock,” explains Brad Nichols, Manager, Cruelty Investigations. “It is important for breeders to take note and provide adequate care to all of their animals.”
