Province donating $60K humanitarian aid to Ukraine

REGINA – Saskatchewan will provide $60,000 for humanitarian assistance to aid Ukrainians during their time of crisis.

In the Legislature on Tuesday, the provincial government also expressed condolences for those in Ukraine who lost their lives pursuing fundamental rights and freedoms.

“Ми разом з народом України – We stand together with the people of Ukraine,” said Ken Krawetz, Saskatchewan’s deputy premier.

The decision to donate to the Ukraine Assistance account was made following a special meeting of the Saskatchewan-Ukraine Relations Advisory Committee (SURAC) in Saskatoon last Thursday.

SURAC reported its findings back to Krawetz in a letter on Monday.

“We look forward to continuing our work with Ukrainian community organizations and the federal government in order to provide long-term support to the people of Ukraine,” said Krawetz.

Donations are being accepted by the New Community Credit Union in Saskatoon.
