HUMBOLDT, Sask. – A public inquest into the deaths of three people at a care home in Humboldt, Saskatchewan is underway on Monday.

A carbon monoxide (CO) leak on Boxing Day three years ago, in a wing at St. Mary’s Villa, contributed to the death of three seniors.

Roman Schneider, Monica Washkosky and Gertrude Lukan passed away in 2010.

A jury of six people from the community will hear evidence over the next four days and help establish what happened.

The jury could also make recommendations to prevent similar deaths in the future.

The inquest is scheduled to wrap up on Friday.

Humboldt is approximately 105 kilometres east of Saskatoon.
