TORONTO — Retired Canadian hockey player Sean Avery is trading skates for dancing shoes to compete on a new season of Dancing With The Stars.

The Toronto-born former NHLer has been paired with Karina Smirnoff for the 18th season of the popular ABC show, which debuts March 17.

Avery, 33, played for the New York Rangers, Dallas Stars, Los Angeles Kings and Detroit Red Wings during his professional career.

Since 2012, he has worked at an advertising agency in New York City. Last November he announced he is engaged to model Hilary Rhoda.

Avery’s challengers include actor Billy Dee Williams, game show host Drew Carey, reality star NeNe Leakes, singer Cody Simpson and Sochi gold medal figure skaters Charlie White and Meryl Davis.

He will also compete against former Full House star Candace Cameron Bure, who is married to former NHLer Valeri Bure.
