Wrestling legend “Macho Man” Randy Savage died in a car accident Friday morning in Tampa, Florida, TMZ reports.
Born Randall Mario Poffo, Savage rose to fame in the 1980s as one of the superstars of the former World Wrestling Federation (WWF), now known as World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).
He was known a much for his piledrives and atomic drops as he was his outlandish outfits and a series of feuds with fellow wrestlers such as Jake “The Snake” Roberts and Ric Flair.
Savage’s brother, Lanny Poffo, confirmed his brother’s death to TMZ, saying the wrestling great crashed his 2009 Jeep Wrangler, at around 10 a.m. local time, after suffering a heart attack while driving.
Police say he veered across traffic, before the vehicle struck a tree.
Savage, 58, recently celebrated his first wedding anniversary with his wife Lynn.
He was previously married to "Miss Elizabeth" Hullett, who managed his career during the 1990s.
