EDMONTON – Four Edmontonians are facing charges after five and a half litres of GHB were seized by the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT).
The GHB — commonly referred to as the “date rape drug” — was found by officers who were conducting a search warrant in Edmonton on Thursday, Feb. 20. It was stored in two-litre pop bottles and is estimated to be worth more than $5,500, police said.
“The way the GHB was being stored in pop bottles is very concerning. If a child, or even an adult, unknowingly took a drink, the consequences could have been fatal,” said Sgt. Grant Best. “It is a dangerous substance and unfortunately we are seeing more of it this year.”
The seizure came just two days after the Edmonton Police Service Specialized Traffic Apprehension Team recovered 28 litres of GHB during a distracted driving traffic stop.

During the most recent search, police also found 113 grams of cocaine worth $11,300, 500 grams of MDMA worth $20,000, and $5,240 in cash.
As a result, Daniel Yahia, 33, Mohammed Elghadban, 33, Jeffrey Oxamitny, 37, and Emily Dirk, 27, have all been arrested. They are now facing numerous drug-related charges.
