An Edmonton woman is concerned for her family and neighbours. Her dog had to be put down after it rolled in a puddle near her home.
Alana McOuat let her 6-year-old Shihtzu Buddy out her front door on April 11th.
The dog rolled in a puddle along the boulevard in front of her home.
Minutes later, McOuat says Buddy’s fur and skin started to burn off.
Buddy was rushed to the vet, but after two weeks of treatment and thousands of dollars worth of vet bills, Buddy was suffering terribly.
He suffered a stroke, seizures, kidney failure, and burns to 90% of his body.
As a result, he had to be euthanized.
McOuat is now left wondering what was in the puddle. Buddy’s vet believes it was chemical in nature, but that’s not enough to satisfy the Shihtzu’s family.
"I have to put my dog down. this is serious now." McOuat said, "This could happen to anyone. It could happen to another animal – to a kids. It could happen to anybody."
Alberta Environment is now looking into the matter.
