Honduran president says country will be readmitted into the OAS

<p>TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – President Porfirio Lobo says Honduras has met the conditions necessary to rejoin the Organization of American States and he expects the country to be readmitted before the body’s general assembly on June 5.</p> <p>Lobo praised the work of Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos and Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez in facilitating Honduras’ readmission bid. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said she was confident the OAS would restore Honduras.</p> <p>The OAS suspended Honduras in 2009 after then-President Manuel Zelaya, now in exile in the Dominican Republic, was ousted by the military. Zelaya said he will likely return within a month, a condition needed for readmission.</p> <p>The OAS’ annual general assembly this year will be held in San Salvador.</p>
