TORONTO – City council is expected to vote today on whether to allow bars in Toronto to open early for the remainder of the Sochi Games.
Councillor Mike Layton proposed the motion calling for alcohol to be served beginning as early as 6 a.m.
City council approved a similar motion in 2010 for the World Cup soccer games that were played in South Africa.
The vote may be too late for the women’s hockey games as the bronze medal match is being played today at 7 a.m. ET and the gold medal game at noon.
The men’s hockey bronze medal game is on Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. ET and the gold at 7 a.m. ET on Feb. 23.
