RITC Road Trip

Who wants to go on a road trip?

For the first time in its near decade existence, Rumble In The Cage is heading out of town. On January 23rd, Lethbridge’s premier mixed martial arts organization is putting on its first show outside the city limits.

RITC 38 is set to bring Calgary and area fans its exciting brand of knockouts, submissions and mano e mano action.  Flames Central is hosting the fight card, located on Steven Avenue Mall. It is the first time the promotion has put on an event outside of Lethbridge, and organizers hope it is the first of many.

“It’s a big market and it’s underserved,” said RITC Owner Lee Mein. “Rumble In The Cage has a great product and now we’re going where many fans have asked us to.”

Flames Central is a tremendous venue for an RITC event, expanding on the idea of the original Roadhouse Rumbles. In the heart of downtown Calgary, the building will offer fight fans a unique experience.

“Flames Central is a high-end location,” Mein stated. “There are no bad seats and lends to a great presentation. There are lots of monitors and big-screens for fans to see replays and it is a very intimate venue.”

Countless Calgary fighters have battled at Rumble In The Cage ever since its inception nearly 10 years ago. Now, current athletes will have a chance to compete in their home city.

“It’s a chance for Calgary fans to see [Calgary] fighters get into the cage at home,” Mein said. “It is a level of competition that has yet to be seen in the market.”

In other exciting news, Rumble In The Cage will be seen on the Fight Network across North America. The channel, available in nearly 500 thousand Canadian households will get things started on Saturday, February 6th with RITC 36. It was a thrilling night of MMA action that concluded with Jesse “Water” Bongfeldt winning the middleweight championship.

“It’s about building the brand,” Mein explained. “We know we have a great thing going on here, and now thousands of people from across North America can tune in on the Fight Network.”

Putting the product on television has long been a goal for RITC promoters, and they feel the time is right with the Fight Network to show what Southern Alberta fight fans have known all along—RITC delivers non-stop MMA action time and time again.

In addition to RITC 36 on February 6th, the Fight Network has a deal in place to show 3 more fight cards sometime in the near future. There is nothing like have a little piece of Lethbridge get out there in the TV world.

As for this month’s event, RITC 38 offers a wide range of talented fighters including Andrew Buckland, Josh Kitchen, Jaret Evans, along with local athletes: Jeremy Smerek and Jordan Mein.

“We plan on starting off 2010 with a bang,” Mein said. “Rumble In The Cage 38, at Flames Central will be the perfect starting point for out promotion this year.”

As the play-by-play voice from RITC, I could not agree more. Along with Jason “Dooms” Day adding the colour, the last two events from 2009 brought fight fans everything they could ask for: big knockouts, sick submissions, title belts changing hands and all-out wars.

I hope Calgary is ready, because the city is soon going to find out what Rumble In The Cage is all about.

And for Southern Alberta fight fans, it was a long time in coming—but it’s time for a road trip! So, who’s driving?
