One Day Closer To Grey Sunday

Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach Ken Miller (L) and Montreal Alouettes head coach Marc Trestman (R) (Postmedia News)

It was a busy day.  Coaches conference early this morning, followed by Roughriders practice and availability, Alouettes availability and practice, then back to the station to get everything ready for News Hour.  I'm certainly not complaining.  It's awesome to have the opportunity to coverage this event.

Montreal head coach, Marc Trestman decided to have his teams walk through inside the Butterdome at the UofA while Ken Miller had his Riders practice in the cold at Commonwealth.  Some might question Trestman's decision.  After all, the game will be played outdoors and even though it's not supposed to be terribly cold on Sunday it's still late November in Edmonton so you know it's going to be a little chilly.  But the fact is today's decision will not play a role on the outcome of the Grey Cup.  Montreal is a veteran team that's played in the cold, wind, rain, sun, and heat…and won.

I was very impressed with both coaches during this morning's press conference.  Listening to them speak gives me an understanding of why they're successful football coaches and why I could never do what they do.  They're both great leaders, they're poised, and they both have a philosophical approach to winning.  If I was a coach I'd yell and scream at my players and blame every loss on bad officiating.  Wait a minute…a lot of coaches have made millions with that approach.  Why am wasting my time writing this blog?  I'm going out to get a coaching job.  I played basketball at NAIT, I'm sure I can get a job in the NBA.  If for some silly reason this plan doesn't work within the next 24 hours then I'll back with another post tomorrow, but I'm sure you won't be hearing from me.
