New home for old tattoo parlour

After two decades of operation in the heart of Edmonton’s 124 Street community, the city’s longest running tattoo parlour is pulling up stakes.

Bear’s Skin Art isn’t going far though, setting up shop across the street in a century-old heritage building.

"It’s a really neat old building," says the shops owner, simply known as Bear. "It was an old apartment, a number of companies tried to bring it back to life so it wouldn’t be condemned."

Bear takes a lot of pride in being a long-standing successful member of the community, and when the time came to expand his business he knew he wanted to stay in the neighbourhood.

"I kept my eye on the building and watched them go through the process of rebuilding it," Bear says. "It turned out to be a pretty nice cathedral feel as opposed to a little old tattoo shop."
