Jennifer Jones leads curling team into finals at Sochi Olympics

WATCH: When Jennifer Jones and her team go for gold, everyone at her St. Vital Curling Club home rink will be cheering them on. Ashley Carter reports.

Jennifer Jones remains undefeated in Sochi as her team advances to the gold-medal match in women’s curling.

The Canadians defeated Great Britain 6-4 in the semifinal. Although Team Canada led throughout the match, some ends were real nail-biters.

In the 4th end, a bad Canadian shot left Great Britain’s skip Eve Muirhead open to take the end. But the British also missed their shot, going too short, which allowed Jones to win a point.

The teams traded shots in the scoreless and dull 7th end, but things heated up again in the 8th as Jones shot an excellent double, wiping out both British stones. That end also ended without any score. Canada remained ahead 5-3 going into the 9th.

Vice-skip Kaitlyn Lawes took advantage of an opportunity left by Great Britain in the 9th and shot another double, which left Muirhead’s team scrambling to find a shot. They did score, and Canada led 5-4 heading into the final end.

Canada started the last end off strong, with several picks and doubles. This put Muirhead in a tough position, and she shot a difficult double to keep the pressure on Canada. Jones shot right on the button to take the end.

The gold-medal match is on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. Eastern time (5:30 a.m. Pacific). Canada will play Sweden, which beat Switzerland 7-5 in the second semifinal match. Great Britain and Switzerland will play for the bronze.
