Language learning software coming soon to a library near you

Libraries across Alberta will soon see a boost to current digital services, thanks to a grant from the Government of Alberta.

A one time grant of $790,000 is being provided to The Alberta Library (TAL) and the Alberta Public Library Electronic Network (APLEN) to help them buy digital licenses to encorporate special language learning software.

Mango, the new software, will be used to teach new Canadians English, French and other languages.

Libraries across the province that are a member of TAL will have access to the resource.

“We are dedicated to opening doors, opening minds and opening global access to all Albertans through our commitment to public libraries,” said Hector Goudreau, Minister of Municipal Affairs. “Libraries are crucial to building knowledge and accessing key technology.”

The funding come in addition to the $32M already allocated by the province in 2011/2012 for public library services.
