Plan to build performing arts spaces near new RAM may have hit a hurdle

EDMONTON – An ambitious plan to build performing arts spaces in downtown Edmonton is raising some questions at City Hall.

Plans are being worked on for what’s called the Galleria Project – a plan that would include four art theatres, several U of A departments and commercial office space.

It would be located near the new Royal Alberta Museum , which is being built at 103 Avenue and 98 Street – the former site of the Old Canada Post Office Building.

With the museum under construction, Galleria officials hope to build a pedway to the site. They’ve made a request for city funding to get started.

Estimated costs for the pedway are pegged at $40 million.

More to come…
