Defending gold medal champions Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse had two solid runs in Sochi, putting them in second place in the women’s bobsled competition.

Their Canada 1 sled faced pressure from the United States, though. United States 1 posted slightly faster times on both runs and set a track record on their first run. They also set a record for the fastest start on that run, which they promptly broke on their second trip down the course.

The U.S. team includes Olympic sprinter Lauryn Williams, who won silver in the 100-metre sprint in Athens and gold in the 4×100-metre relay in London.

Williams and Moyse have a combined time of 1:55.12 over their first two runs; the U.S. team has 1:54.89.

The other Canadian sled, Canada 2, is in 13th place after two runs. The final score for the teams is determined by adding together the times from all four runs.
