Worker killed at PotashCorp Cory mine west of Saskatoon

SASKATOON – A worker at the Cory PotashCorp mine has been killed.

Officials with the Saskatoon-based company said the 31-year-old man died after ore on a roof fell on him on Monday around 3:30 a.m.

Other workers rushed to his aid and administered CPR. He was brought to the surface and taken to hospital where he passed away. His name has not been released.

One other person was taken to hospital as a precaution.

PotashCorp say councillors have been brought in to help employees deal with the situation and company officials are working with the family of the deceased.

Operations at the mine just west of Saskatoon have been temporarily shut-down.

Occupation health and safety along with PotashCorp are investigating.
