<p>EDMONTON – The Alberta government’s latest plan to deal with labour shortages is to keep older workers working.</p> <p>Employment and Immigration Minister Thomas Lukaszuk has announced an action plan that aims to revise retirement programs and pension policies.</p> <p>It will also work to develop more age-friendly work environments, flexible work arrangements and phased retirement.</p> <p>Lukaszuk presented the plan during the Human Resources Institute of Alberta annual conference Wednesday.</p> <p>He says declining birth rates, aging baby boomers and increasing life expectancy are creating the perfect storm for future labour shortages.</p> <p>Lukaszuk says retaining older workers keeps their experience, corporate memory and leadership. </p>
