SASKATOON – Concerns are being raised about the quality of work being done during the current house-building boom in Saskatoon.

Alan Thomarat, CEO of the Saskatoon and Region Home Builders’ Association, says there are 240 registered contractors in the city but not all of them are meeting industry standards.

Thomarat told a city council meeting on Monday that some outside contractors who have come to take advantage of the boom are not always doing a quality job.

He suggests a regulatory board be set up that holds contractors in Saskatchewan to a particular standard.

Thomarat is also concerned about the number of housing lots in Saskatoon that will be available in coming years.

He says if current growth patterns continue, housing starts will have to double to keep up with demand.
