WINNIPEG – Much of southern Manitoba, including Winnipeg, is under a snowfall warning Wednesday, Environment Canada says.
The agency says 10 to 15 centimetres are expected Wednesday night with the heaviest snow in the southwest.
“Snow will become locally heavy at times tonight before tapering off overnight into early Thursday morning,” Environment Canada reports. “In addition, gusty east to southeast winds ahead of the system will create poor visibilities in snow and blowing snow in many areas. Travelling conditions will become poor tonight across much of southern Manitoba with lingering effects into Thursday morning.”
The City of Winnipeg issued a declared snow route parking ban Wednesday.
“In anticipation of forecasted snowfall for the city of Winnipeg this evening, the declared snow route parking ban will be in effect starting at midnight Thursday,” officials said in a news release. “While in effect, this ban prohibits parking on any snow route between the hours of midnight and 7 a.m.”
The snowfall warning is issued for:
- Winnipeg
- Selkirk, Gimli, Stonewall, Woodlands, Eriksdale
- Portage la Prairie, Headingley, Brunkild, Carman
- Dugald, Beausejour, Grand Beach
- Morden, Winkler, Altona, Emerson, Morris
- Steinbach, St. Adolphe, Dominion City, Vita, Richer
- Whiteshell, Lac Du Bonnet, Pinawa
- Sprague, Northwest Angle Provincial Forest
Conditions will improve in the southwest overnight and in the southeast Thursday morning, Environment Canada said.
