CALGARY- The principal of a Calgary elementary school has been fined $1,000 for unprofessional conduct, after locking students in a classroom.
A disciplinary hearing was held in Edmonton for Gerald Pedron, after he tied a door shut at Sundance Elementary School, barricading the young students inside.
Pedron said his actions were in the best interests of students, but the disciplinary board disagreed.
In a statement, the Calgary Board of Education said in part:
“As this is a personnel matter, we cannot discuss the specific case. However, in any case such as this we respond appropriately according to our policy and practices.”
It added that the safety and security of students are of the utmost importance.
