Students at St. Edmund Elementary celebrate Olympic spirit

MONTREAL – As Canada’s medal count at the Sochi winter games continues to rise, students at a Beaconsfield elementary school have taken the Olympic spirit to heart.

As children at St. Edmund Elementary shared words of encouragement for Canada’s athletes, teacher’s caught their enthusiasm on camera and shared it with the world on YouTube.

Grade two teacher Suzanne de Bellefeuille and physical education teacher Vanessa Davidson, who also happens to play for the Montreal Stars women’s hockey team, then sent the video to the women’s hockey team in Sochi, who shared it with other Team Canada athletes.

“We just asked the kids to wear red on that day in support of our athletes, but they did more than that, they made signs, they had flags – and they had spirit,” said St. Edmund school principal Nathia Messina.

“We are proud of our students, as we are proud of Canada’s athletes in Sochi.”
