Edmonton sports fields not quite ready for play

Stay off city owned sports fields, that’s the message Edmonton is sending to residents after a long winter and a late spring.

The city says that using the sports fields before they are ready to open could result in damage to the playing surfaces, causing the opening of the facilities to be delayed.

In some cases, the city says the damages could cause the fields to remain closed for an entire season.

The city’s Sports field Operations Team is checking recreation areas for standing water, moisture levels and drainage.

Weather permitting, the city hopes to have most sports fields in the region open by May 2nd.
