CALGARY – A janitor at a Calgary school found what appeared to be a pipe bomb this morning, say police.
Police were called to the Calgary Christian School, in the 5000 block of 26th Avenue S.W., after the discovery at 11:30 a.m. in the stairwell just outside the school
Students of the school had the day off.
The bomb squad rendered the device safe and no one was injured.
Police believe the four inch long device may have been an explosive but further tests are necessary to determine what it was.
“We’re not 100 per cent sure it was an explosive device but had it been, and had there been anybody walking nearby, it could have been deadly,” said duty inspector Rob Williams.
Detectives from District 2 and the arson unit are investigating.
“We don’t know a motive at this point,” said Williams.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call police.
