Bylaw officer nearly run over

A Kelowna city bylaw officer was almost run over Tuesday afternoon after he tried to have a vehicle towed.

The officer noticed a pick-up truck parked on a public street that had expired insurance.

While he waited for the tow truck to arrive, the owner jumped into the vehicle and tried to drive away.

The bylaw officer stepped in front of the pick-up but had to jump part way onto the hood to avoid being run over.

The vehicle drove off but police found it shortly afterwards.

The 56-year-old owner is facing charges of dangerous driving and assault with a weapon.

He was also ticketed for not having vehicle insurance.
