Long-haul trucker says new Volvo rig keeps breaking down

A long-haul trucker with a sparkling driving record is in a fight for his livelihood.

Over 44 years and over four million miles, Ron Petruk has never had an accident, and with just a few working years left, he decided to treat himself to a new Volvo rig.

Petruk planned to wrap up his career traveling North America in comfort, with his wife at his side.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The breakdowns mean lost hauls and days in the repair shops where he was sent by Action Volvo in North Carolina.

“We are very much aware of the issues Mr. Petruk is dealing with,” says Brandon Borgna, Manager, Media Relations at Volvo Trucks. “Volvo is dedicated to being a leader in quality and customer support. We are continuing to work directly with Mr. Petruk, regarding the concerns he has raised.”

But Petruk says Volvo should have stepped up long ago. Now the bank is after his truck.

“They were making arrangements with a lawyer, to call the loan and repossess the truck.”

Petruk is hoping that the bank will give him a break, so Action Volvo in North Carolina can step up, fix his rig or give him a loaner so he can haul some loads and make a few payments.

“It seems like they don’t care, they just ship me out, and say good luck, hope you make it to Vancouver.”
