It is a sure sign of spring as the sounds of baseball fill Elks Stadium in Kelowna this weekend.
College baseball teams from Calgary, Lethbridge, Vancouver Island and Kamloops are in Kelowna for a season opening series of games.
The Okanagan College Coyotes offered to host the teams for the start of the season due to last-minute problems with the visiting teams’ fields.
Bill Bayne, president of Okanagan College baseball, says the baseball parks in Calgary and Lethbridge are under snow and the Kamloops team isn’t allowed on their park yet so the Coyotes offered to bring all the teams to the valley for the opening weekend.
Every team will play four games.
The Coyotes are the defending division champions.
Bayne says the team plays in the spring and fall and many players are hoping to be noticed by scouts.
