WATCH: Frozen man found near death in Vernon park

VERNON – A Vernon man is lucky to be alive because of a chance encounter with an RCMP officer in a local park.

The Mountie was on a foot patrol through Polson Park at about 11:20 p.m. Friday when he came across a 35 year old man frozen to the ground.

He was inadequately dressed for the -16 temperature and was sitting exposed in the snow.

Police say the extremely intoxicated man was barely conscious and may have been in the park for about six hours.

The man was taken to hospital suffering from hypothermia and frostbite.

Had the man not been found, medical staff at the hospital say he would have died before morning.
